Masterpiece: Downton Abbey Seasons 1, 2 & 3 Deluxe Limited Edition (Amazon Exclusive Season 4 Bonus Features)

"Downton Abbey" Seasons 1-3
There is something special about "Downton Abbey". It has all the trappings of a typical British costume drama, but it's got an extra spark that's allowed it to travel overseas and find great success here in the United States. I am a male in his 20s who enjoys dark TV shows like "Dexter" and "Breaking Bad" - on the surface, I'm not exactly in the demographic you'd think would be interested in "Downton Abbey". But I gave the show a chance, and I really enjoy it. So I'd encourage you to give it a chance too. Between "Downton Abbey" and the BBC's "Sherlock", I think Britain has two of the best shows of recent years.

As with any great TV show, "Downton Abbey" has a strong narrative and well-written characters. One thing that sounded a bit off-putting about the show was the idea of rich folks living in their castle with a bunch of servants. But as you watch, its obvious that the Crawleys (who own the estate) care very much for their staff. And when financial troubles hit...

Definitive Box Set............So Far!
This DVD set is a real treat as it includes all 25 episodes from Series 1-3. There are seven episodes from the first series, eight each from the second and third, plus the 2011 Christmas special which was arguably the best single episode so far; it was certainly one of the most dramatic! The less impressive 2012 Christmas Special is also included to round off Season 3.

The three series so far have taken us from 1912, just after the sinking of the Titanic, up to 1920. The circumstances surrounding each series have been in contrast with each other. The first series ran up to the start of the First World War, and the one of the main thrusts of the story line was the matchmaking within the Crawley family and the various financial and social influences on the choice of a suitable partner.

The second series moves on to the war years, when Downton Abbey had been converted into a convalescent home for injured servicemen. The time setting is from the Battle of the Somme...

we'll see....fingers crossed...
4 stars is for the show itself, lets face it...its "Dallas" all over again with different 'UK/English' accents instead of 'Southern/Texan' accents, and with historical elements in the mix as interesting backdrops. A good ol' Soap Opera with excellent acting...nothing too much wrong with that i say! (at least for seasons 1-2, we havent seen season 3 yet, and dont have this boxed set yet :)... BUT will come back and update rating based on the specifics of the set once it's released....questions i DO have about the set are....

Does anyone know whether or not this will contain the UN-cut longer UK versions of the show, or will it contain the cut/shorter versions that appeared on US broadcasts? the answer to the above will determine whether or not i purchase this set. My fingers crossed that it contains the genuine longer unedited versions that aired in UK?...if amazon can confirm that, then i'll be SOLD on this set right away as a gift for the mrs.

so,...does anyone...

The Monster Club [Blu-ray]

"Monsters Rule O.K."
Back in the mid 60's to early 70's, Amicus Productions (The Studio That Dripped Blood) rivaled the famous Hammer Studios and its' horror films, and the releases from the two English studios were often confused as they often used many of the same actors and directors. Amicus Productions was most famous for its' creepy horror anthologies, including The House that Dripped Blood (1970), Tales from the Crypt (1972), Asylum (1972), The Vault of Horror (1974), and From Beyond the Grave (1975). Amicus, formed by a partnership between producers Milton Subotsky and Max J. Rosenberg, dissolved in the mid 70's, as did Amicus Productions. While many fans mourned the passing of this wonderful and short-lived institution, Subotosky did go on to form Sword and Sorcery Productions, which released The Monster Club (1980), bringing back some of the magic of a time since past.

Directed by Roy Ward Baker, who also did Asylum and The Vault of Horror, along with numerous Hammer films, The Monster Club,...

SIMPLY AMAZING..
I cannot recommend this disc enough. The picture and sound quality are fantastic for a film of its age and the extras are spot on as well, including the films soundtrack as a stand alone audio is a nice touch.

The only slight glich is the commentary from Beavis and Butthead (the actual people who released the dvd) who try there best to slag the film off in the most horror film nerd cliches of all time.

A brilliant budget disc that i have been waiting on for years.

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah its cornball nonsense i know but.....

MONSTERS RULE OK!

Pure campy fun
Curious horror anthology is loosely based on the works of horror novelist R. Chetwynd-Hayes, portrayed by John Carradine as an active partaker in his own tales. The author is invited by a smooth vampire (the fabulous Vincent Price) to go with him to The Monster Club, where he bears witness to the secret social customs of various monsters, which evidently include drinking, dancing, and watching undead stripping Go Go Ghouls. He is also educated to the mating patterns of these creatures, whose tendency to inter-breed creates such new strains of monsters. All of this is interjected by short stories featuring campy yet fun monsters running amok. A fun side note is that the movie features music by pop-reggae band UB40. Have no sense of humor? Avoid this film. Love campy fun? Don't miss out.

A Knight's Tale

Don't buy the "Extended" Edition!
If you're a fan of Brian Helgeland, Paul Bettany (Chaucer), or just commentary tracks in general, don't buy the extended edition. The regular DVD has every feature the "extended" edition does - it just doesn't insert the deleted scenes into the movie. They're included as bonus features. This extended edition does not include the hilarious and insightful commentary track by Helgeland and Bettany, which is really the best thing about the DVD. You get more features for less money by buying the regular DVD release.

IT WILL ROCK YOU
Apparently audiences couldn't quite figure out A Knight's Tale when it had its theatrical release last year. This was in all likelihood due to the combination of rock music in ancient times clashing with our knowledge of history and our delicate sensibilities. However, having both seen this at the cinema and owning it on DVD, I would like to hope that this movie will be given a second chance to win new viewers as it really is a good film and great fun!

Heath Ledger (The Patriot) displaying great charm and a winning smile throughout, plays William Thatcher, squire to a washed up champion jouster, who dies during a competition, leaving William to masquerade as his master in order to collect their winnings. Aided by his initially less than enthusiatic pals Roland (Mark Addy from Full Monty) and Wat (Alan Tudyk, 28 Days) William fakes nobility to illegally enter competitions. On their travels they encounter a naked wanderer, the future famed author, Geoffrey Chaucer (Paul Bettany) who...

Changing their stars
I can't tell you how surprised I was when I absolutely loved this movie! I didn't expect to like it at all. I figured it would be a two-dimensional MTV take on Medieval sport. Instead the producers did something dangerous -- they found a script!

Sure it's predictable and there are plenty of cliched lines, but the film absolutely succeeds in what it set out to do. It plays very well by its own rules. And it is surprisingly moving at times. When the film could have sunk to schmaltz, it holds its own with good acting and sturdy writing.

What could have been another stupid teen movie actually has legs and a soul.

I'm amazed the number of people who fault it for its inventive style in incorporating contemporary music with the medieval milieu, when these same people loved Shrek for doing exactly the same thing.

I applaud the risks the film takes and how well it succeeds when it takes them. In the end, isn't Pro Wrestling or boxing the modern day equivalent of the joust? In...

How I Met Your Mother: Season Eight

How could HIMYM ever go wrong?
I had just finished all of Seasons 1 through 7 on Netflix and I didn't know what I was going to do to watch Season 8. It's not on Hulu or any other valid website, the DVD isn't released yet and probably won't be until the fall AFTER the new (and final) season starts. I couldn't bear to miss more and find a way to catch up later, so buying the instant video episodes on here was one of the best decisions I've made! Season 8 is hilarious, touching, and everything else good about this show. I highly recommend buying the instant vids if you need to find a quick way to watch Season 8!

Amazing show
God, I love this show. I recommend you watch it now, its so funny! Legen - wait for it - dary!

Loved it
Since me and my husband are the same age as the gang we really enjoy it. Also it is amazing to see that relationships and jokes are cross cultural .

New Girl: The Complete Second Season

Best show on tv
This is an incredible show with a fantastic cast and stellar writing. The first few episodes of the show had a little trouble finding a groove, but it has gotten steadily more amazing with each episode. This second season was even better, with the last ten episodes of the season just blowing all other comedies out of the water. All the characters are amazing, and the story between Nick and Jess that took off at the second half of this second season has made them THE best tv couple of all time. Their chemistry just cannot be matched on any other show. The storylines are fun, but realistic and move organically at the same time. If the writers see a story developing (like the love between roommates, Nick and Jess) they don't hold back because they think they "should". They just GO FOR IT, and the show is so much better because they're willing to take those kinds of risks. They've developed and matured the characters at a realistic pace, without ever making you feel like they were...

Star Rating for FOX Ads! The Show Itself Is 5 Stars!
First, the show itself continues to be well-written and acted in the second season, so for the content of the show, 5 Stars!
ZERO stars for FOX's policy of putting advertising on the episodes.

Unfortunately, FOX has chosen to stick obnoxiously loud commercials at the beginning and end of each episode! A primary reason I purchase the shows like this is not to be bombarded with ads. I cannot imagine why FOX feels it necessary to put an ad at the head of each episode with a commercial for the show I ALREADY BOUGHT. Then at the end of each episode FOX insidiously inserts commercials for their other programming. I know I can skip through them, but I can do that with DVR from cable WITHOUT paying $1.99 an episode; I do not expect to have to avoid ads on episodes I purchase.

Finally, since this IS commercial-supported (and with two ads, it definitely is), the price should be lower than for other shows which are sold with no commercials, and the product description...

funny, warm, and addictive
You'll be watching half a season in a night if you're anything like me. This show only gets better with age.

The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec [Director's Cut] (BluRay/DVD/Digital Copy) [Blu-ray]

Not a Hollywood Film!
Thank heavens, and it doesn't suffer from the predictability and cliches of Hollywood that almost every movie from that town does nowadays. One never knows where The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec will end up next, and that's half of the fun. Pterydactyls, mummies, and raising from the dead have never been as fun, or as fashionable. Louise Bourgois, as Adele, is wonderful. And for those of you, like myself, who don't speak French, the English dubbing is well voiced (although not necessarily always well synchronized). It's nothing more than a silly, fun romp, but it is a very good silly fun romp.

Wait for the Director's Cut
This movie is very fun, but unfortunately Shout! Factory has decided to release a censored version that removes the briefest of nudity scenes from the movie. A scene actually shown in the theaters. What's worse is they're releasing a "Director's Cut" version in just a few months. That's a rather poor decision considering this version was not advertised as being censored and people who bought it had no idea of a Director's Cut coming out in October.

So before you say this review wasn't helpful because I gave it 1-star, I'm giving 1 star solely for the release and not for the movie. Shout! is being greedy and trying to get people to buy it twice. If you support that then go ahead and say I'm not helpful.

I hope others who read this also post similar reviews so that they realize they can't treat their customers like this.

Region 0 version English & French 5.1 Dolby Digital

The Heat

Absolutely hilarious, from beginning to end.
One thing I hate about female-driven comedy is the oft-sub par material that women have to work with. The punchline is always something tasteless or stale - like age, body image or gender roles. For some reason, the misogynistic question of whether or not women are funny is still a topic of hot debate. Kristen Wiig's "Bridesmaids" should have been enough to shut these guys up once and for all, but alas, it was not.

"The Heat" reunites "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy, who, after 15 years in show business, was finally recognized as the star that she is, after the release of that film, which earned her an Academy Award nomination. Since then, McCarthy has been one busy gal - on her time off from filming her sitcom "Mike & Molly," this married mother of two has been filming movies left and right. She's a box office sure thing - the critically panned "Identity Thief" scored $135 million at the box office, and "The Heat", originally planned for an April...

Rude, crude but with heart
"The Heat" offers nothing new in the way of mismatched buddy comedies, but is hilariously entertaining regardless. Sandra Bullock plays an uptight FBI agent whose abrasive attitude has alienated her colleagues and whose shot at getting the big promotion rests on her ability to successfully complete a drug smuggling case with partner Boston cop Melissa McCarthy, who has her own, um, personality issues. McCarthy is currently alienated from her working class clan, too because of turning in her brother (Michael Rappaport), as a way to get him help for his drug problems. (Bullock's own "family" consists of a cat who used to belong to her but currently resides (his choice) with a neighbor.) The duo has the obligatory meet messy when Bullock filches McCarthy's parking spot and then mistakes McCarthy for a perp who's waiting to be interrogated. Neither attempts by their superiors (Thomas Wilson, Marlon Wayans) to mediate nor the stresses of the case itself is enough to make them meld...

movierewiew
Where do I even start? OK, lets start with the movie itself. The Heat was one of the funniest movies I ever seen, personally, I liked it better than The Hangover Trilogy. Sandra Bullock seemed odd in the beginning, but comedy queen Melissa MaCarthy brought out her inner sarcasm/foul language/comedy. The only con about this movie is the cursing, but hey, it made the movie even more enjoyable. Probably going to be the funniest movie of 2013.

Glee: The Complete Fourth Season

Season 4 Doesn't Mirror Season 1-3
Basically, began watching after enjoying "Don't Stop Believing" remake video from pilot. Although considered mostly a "teen dramedy" I strongly suspect older adults enjoyed Season 1-3 due to great song arrangements from different genres and decades and strong acting ability from diverse characters. The show had an overall good message of acceptance due to the diverse nature of characters. Most knew the students did not look 15(exception "Curt") and likely no one cared. There was chemistry between characters, esp. Lea Michelle and Cory Monteith (Rachael and Finn.) The show was funny with it's quirky humor, esp. Jane Lynch as Coach Sue Sylvester. Perhaps her portrayal as ultra-conservative coach of the Nat'l ranked cheerleaders set on destroying "Mr. Shue's" (Mark Morrison)Glee Club seemed more outrageously funny knowing her character's portrayal couldn't be more opposite than her real life (based on interviews). Each character was well-developed. The show took on controversial subjects...

i love this show. I enjoy the music selection as well as the storyline. Great entertainment!! Keeps me laughing and wanting to download music.

Didn't Think Glee Could Get Better
I am 3/4 of the way through season 4 and it is all I can do to stop watching and go to work ! It is my favorite season, although I loved 1, 2, and 3 too. I highly rec. season 4 to everyone who loves Glee and it would also be enjoyable to people who have not yet watched Glee. Great stories, music, dancing - great actors, it is just enjoyable on all levels.

I Dream of Jeannie: The Complete Series

Functionality nightmare! Read before buying!
The episodes are great & I want to make it clear that I love this series. I have no complaints with the episodes or the quality of the episodes.

The problem is with the functionality of the nightmare packaging, the DVD indexing, the ear-blasting irritating audio on the Menu and inconsistent labeling vs menu designations. I recommend you read this before buying this cute set. You might change your mind and get a set with normal packaging after you read about the nightmare you will go through just to watch the DVD's.

The packaging is cute... if you don't ever plan to watch the episodes. However, if you do plan to watch them, when you remove the disk sleeves from the bottle, do NOT set it down because you will end up with disks everywhere. The sleeves cannot be set down because they cannot support themselves upright without the bottle... so it flops over and the disks all fall out. The sleeves are an open accordion/slinky style design, made from thin cardboard. This...

Very nice package. It could have been just a little better though.
I received mine the other day. The packaging is pretty nice. It has a clear plastic outer box with nice graphics. The discs are beautiful with high quality labeling and are also color coded by season. The video and audio quality is very good to excellent. The discs are kept in a colorful, fan-out style holder. The set also comes with 55 trivia cards packed in a nice, little fancy box. I have just a few issues, some little, some not so little. First, the 'bottle'. It's touted as a 'replica' but it's made of cardboard and only looks like the actual bottle from an image seen when turned to the side. A more realistic solid bottle would have been very cool even if made of only plastic. They could have put the discs and holder lying flat in the base and had the base removable. I know I'm going on but that's the way I would have done it. I doubt it would have cost them much more. Also, the discs are numbered 1 thru 20. It probably would have been better to group the disc...

Great DVD - Lousy and Dangerous Bottle
Altogether the collection is nice (although season 1 is colored)

My only deception with this collection is the "bottle". I own over 500 DVD's at home and this is THE single most hazardous box to hold a collection of DVD's.

Each DVD is inserted in a sleeve and all these sleeves are glued together in an "accordeon" type of holder. I use term "glued" very loosely: 1 tiny drop of glue at the top of the sleeve and another tiny one at the bottom.

Then you slip this "accordeon" sideways "inside" the "bottle". If you try to lift the bottle by its "neck", chances are all your DVD's will slip to the floor faster than Jeannie could blink!...

Even getting a DVD out of this "accordeon" is hazardous; picture 20 DVD's held in a barely glued cardboard Slinky and you will have a pretty accurate idea!!!

Word from the wise: forget about keeping the DVD'S it their original holder... Put your them in a safer box!

Embrace of the Vampire [Blu-ray]

One star for the movie plus four stars for Alyssa . . .
Does this movie have a plot worth watching? No. Is it a masterpiece of staging and set direction? No. Will this movie show up in a retrospective of great American 20th Century cinema? Not a chance in hell.

So what does this movie have? Well, Alyssa Milano, frequently nude, and occasionally in softcore sex scenes. Does that make it worth watching? Yes, definitely if you enjoy Alyssa Milano. Her portrayal of a naive, virginal co-ed rings a little less than true, but her seduction scene with the photographer alone is almost worth the price of the tape. The vampire orgy sequence and her dream foursome certainly round out the cost of the video. I would, however, recommend the DVD version if you're planning on buying it. The DVD's ability to have short sections run repeatedly without degrading the playback quality will prove invaluable.

A must see, just to strange to pass up
I place this film along side "Showgirls" as a truly indispensable guilty pleasure, this film is an absolute riot, you just can't keep a straight face. It begins in "the past," one of those historicaly ambiguous time periods where folks wore armer but also had perfect hair and teeth, some guy is minding his own business, sleeping or whatever outside by a brook, it looks like one of those romance novel covers. Three buxom vampires come up out of nowhere, they look suspiciously like exotic dancers from Deja vu, or perhaps the local Hooters rented these "vampires" for the day, he doesn't put up much of a fight (neither would I) and soon we are transported to "the present day," sometime in the late 90's I assume to a school that looks a lot like Stanford. Alyssa Malano is a new student, she is a virgin and tells us so, repeatedly in conversations with her long suffering boyfriend, she is fond of crucifixes and kneels and prays a lot, the prayers do her little good however for soon the...

Alyssa Milano! Mostly Nude!
If you're looking for a plot, good acting, thrilling action sequences, characters that you can care about, a good script, or a memorable movie experience, then you're looking at the wrong movie. However, if you're looking for a softcore porn movie starring Alyssa Milano's bare breasts, you're looking at the right movie.

Alyssa Milano gets naked. You see her nipples with amazing frequency. She lets guys touch her in dream sequences. She lets a female photographer touch her, remove most of her clothing, and then kiss her. But beware, Lesbian Sex Scene seekers - Alyssa does not go further than kissing. Yes, that's right - she loses her nerve and runs out of the room. Taking the time to get dressed again, unfortunately.

So if you're a fan of Alyssa Milano's breasts, then by all means rent this movie. Or buy it. It's worth it if you enjoy seeing her bare, heaving bosom. However, if you like movies that you can watch all the way through without saying "God,...

100 Bloody Acres [Blu-ray]

Just what I expected
Worth watching. Very gory, but fairly funny in parts. I wouldn't pay for it in a theater, but it is a decent rental.

WE'RE NOT BAD PEOPLE
Sophie (Anna McGahan) along with her BF (Oliver Ackland) and Wesley (Jamie Kristian) a male rival are headed via the back roads to a music festival when their automobile breaks down. They get a ride from Reg Morgan (Damon Herriman) who is driving the company truck of Morgan Brother's "Blood and Bone" organic fertilizer. Not too hard to figure the rest out.

The film has some blood splatter scenes, but lacks the gore. This slasher film is in part dark comedy as Reg, is the younger partner brother who is insecure in what he does as well as being sexually repressed. While facing death, Sophie's boyfriend is more concerned about her infidelity, wanting to know the details of what she did, rather than being worried about the situation at hand.

The film is a good concept, but comes off as going through the motions. Okay as a rental.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, no sex or nudity. One scene of apparent self gratification.

Blood, Funny Bones, and ... Heart?
The Morgan brothers run a blood and bone fertilizer business in the isolated backwoods of Australia. Not content with just using road kill to make their product, they begin relying on car crash victims found by the side of the road. When they cross paths with three kids on their way to get drugged up at a music festival, it becomes a struggle to see who will survive and if the Morgan brothers will be able to make a big shipment of "new blend" to one of their biggest clients.

The movie is pretty gory from the start, although I've seen worse. It bills itself as a gory comedy. It is funny in parts, but so much of the humor is mixed in with the character development that it gets a little tedious, especially when the film starts to spiral out of control and the script starts asking the audience to actually sympathize with any of the characters. Not a single one of them is likable, though. The three teens are composed of a girl who cheats on her incredibly whiny boyfriend with...

YELLOWSTONE 3D - America's Greatest Wonder (Blu-ray 3D & 2D Version) REGION FREE

Be careful if preordering this item
August 17, 2013. Just received another notice from Amazon that there is further delay. Don't know if this is their standard update or if the September release is extended further. Still shows on product page as September. As for me I have finally had enough with these delays and today I cancelled my preorder for this one as well as the one on Grand Canyon and Rockies from same studio for which also received note from Amazon that they too were delayed. Yellowstone was first to be out end of March, or nearly six months ago. I have decided that if they cannot meet schedule over this length of time with delay after delay then I will wait and see what people have to say if and when they are released. I am hoping they are good but would rather wait until out and then see what people think of the production value when they have actually seen the video and its 3D effects. June 27, 2013 update. After publishing this review on the Yellowstone, Grand Canyon and Rockies DVD sites several...

Endless delays of the release
I am a little bit annoyed by the few existing reviews of this movie that hasn't come yet. Time of its' release continues to change, and Amazon has nothing in its' power but to continue accepting pre-ordrers. Meanwhile, expectations and interest are dwindling out. Will we ever watch them?

Release Date Keeps Changing
I was very excited to get this and Rocky Mountains 3D and ColoRado River 3D. Yellowstone and Rocky Mountains were supposed to be released today, the 6th, but I just noticed that the release dates got pushed back until October. What up with that? Really not cool. I don't know if it is Amazon or the company releasing them, but the last minute change is very off putting.

The Croods (+ Toy)

A perfect family film
This movie was some of the most fun i've had with a movie in a long time. It was hilarious, emotionally deep and original on every turn. The moral and underlining tone is as relevant as ever. Going against everything you know in order to survive and actually live your life is something we all must come to terms with and this movie hits the nail on the head. The graphics are incredible, the soundtrack is heart racing and dialogue is fluidly natural.

From the previews I did not expect it to be this good but I was pleasantly surprised. This is an absolutely perfect family film. It's hilarious, touching and relevant. Everyone should see this movie.

Croods - Taking Notes From Ice Age
I saw this movie at a prescreening event at my local theater. I went in without any expectations as I hadn't seen any of the advertisements other than movie posters. When I left the theater, I was more than pleased. The version showed at the event was in 3D. I found it to be very exceptional as I noticed it the whole way through without getting lost in it. It enhanced my movie going experience with the amount of depth that was perceived. It literally felt like looking into a box.

This is a movie that succeeds as a family movie. In my opinion, there weren't any questionable content at any point in the film. My kids enjoyed it and asked if we could buy it when it comes out.

One thing I did notice about this movie is there many elements taken from the Ice Age franchise. I don't want to divulge too much as to include spoilers but when watching the movie, I recommend you matching this movie against each of the Ice Ages and you will see many similarities...

All I can say is HILARIOUS MOVIE!!!!!!
The previews for this movie made me not want to see it at all, but I ended up taking my niece & nephew to it in the theater (both far apart in ages) and they both LOVED it, and I have to admit I did too! Actually everyone in the theater watching it was cracking up, it has a ton of hilarious lines from every character in it. Best part, it was consistently funny throughout, not just in a couple of scenes, with jokes geared for all ages. A very creative story too with the family obviously (The Croods) who are the last surviving cavemen family. Their curious teenage daughter Eep runs into a more humanly "evolved" guy, actually whose name is Guy who lets her know the world is coming to an end. The Croods are afraid of life where animals hunt you at all times, but when their cave is destroyed in an earthquake, they are forced on a journey with their survival guide, Guy to stay alive. A MUST WATCH ANIMATED MOVIE!!!! Best one I've seen in a long time! The writer/director -Chris Sanders, who...

Maniac [Blu-ray]

A side of Elijah Wood that you've never seen before
Banned in New Zealand? You have got to be kidding me. Maniac is a stylish low budget horror film and remake of the original version. This movie is about a man with psychological issues who goes on a rampage killing women and scalping them for mannequins. Different kind of movie.

Rare remake that is worth it.
As a huge fan of the Joe Spinell original, I have to say I was more than impressed with this retelling of one of the more unique horror films from the 80's. I was more than skeptical about the POV style, and of any remakes lately, but Elijah Wood was fantastic as the tortured psychopath. The special effects were great, if you like some good, bloody slasher movie effects, and the overall mood was dark and brooding, the way a slasher film should be. Highly recommended for the old school horror fan.

FINALLY fixed the streaming
I wish I read the reviews before I rented this. This is not the movie that is advertised in the title.

Edit:

The mixup has been FIXED so I was able to see the movie. Now to fix my rating with a proper review. This is a definite 5 star horror movie in my book.

The POV camera for the stalking/killing is very jarring (harkening back to the opening scene of Halloween). Paired with the somewhat retro soundtrack it gives a nostalgic feeling for old style slasher movies in a modern setting, and I think the movie itself is a solid entry into that genre. The violence in the movie is VERY graphic (and it does not shy away from it using quick cuts or other camera tricks), so gauge your own stomach before watching, but it is worth it in my opinion.

Like I said, definite 5 star on the movie.

My Cousin Vinny/Back To School/City Slickers [Blu-ray]

'My Cousin Vinny' ' Back to School' & 'City Slickers' on BluRay
Paid $9.99 for this 3 movie set and it was well worth it. Before I left the store I made sure that all three movies were on separate discs and they were so no worries about 2 movies on a single ultra compressed Blu Ray DVD.
These movies have been around for some time and I wasn't sure which ones still had legs as movies; it turns out that all 3 of them retain their humor and warmth and hold up quite nicely. However, since plots, acting and opinions on the movies have already been written too many times to count I will only focus on the quality of each film's transfer to Blu Ray.

BACK TO SCHOOL...
VIDEO: While the film retains the soft focus of most movies shot on film and not video you can see a mild film grain, very mild and it doesn't take anything away from the transfer. This is an excellent transfer with good contrast and some excellent color saturation and resolution. Colors are really quite natural and details is shadow areas are not blacked out by...

Divine Hijinks
Poor Goduu - all he wanted was to return a stone tablet to a friend of his now deceased grandfather - however things get complicated when he gets caught up in a duel with two powerful gods and ends up becoming a Campione - one who has killed a god and gained the Authority of said diety. Now he has returned to japan with a beautiful blonde knight, Erica in order to protect the country and keep other gods from destroying the world. But how is he to do this when other Campiones are trying to muscle in on his territory, rogue gods appear, and do not forget the group of lovely ladies who wish to help and train him - not to mention get closer to him. But can Godu be able to keep his divine promises, or will he be sidetracked with all the distractions that Erica and the others can provide to him.

I just finished this and will get it soon. A entertaining action harem comedy filled with lovely ladies, explosions, divine battles, and a lot of soul searching. It is a must to have...

god slayer
Campione follows the aventures of godou, a high school student who inadvertently stole the powers of a god. Now his daily life has been made more complicated not only by gods who want to kill him but by rival god slayers. He's not alone however as he's companied buy a harem of voluptuous warrior maidens who via for his affection.

From a fan point of view, campione is one of the best animes to come out in a while. The stories entertaining, the characters are memorable, and the battle scenes are epic and very cinematic. It is a crime this anime didn't get more than just one season. I had also wish to spend money went to Funimation instead of sentai Filmworks, as sentai tends to price there merchandise a bit high. Despite that I'm still going to buy it, and would recommend this anime to anyone.

Loved it in subbed
This is truly interesting. Though I've merely watched the subbed version, I would highly recommend getting the dubbed version too. And watching it over and over again.

WWE: Payback 2013 [Blu-ray]

WWE Payback '13 BluRay Review
WWE Payback 2013
Chicago, IL

#1 Intercontiental championship match: Wade Barrett(c) vs. The Miz vs. Curtis Axel
Here we go, first match up on this Pay-Per-View.
Good way to start the show. Good work here, all men had a chance to shine. It is a shame that Wade Barrett isn't in the main event. But anyways. The ending was great! Curtis Axel covering Barrett while he was in the figure four. Was a great heel way for Axel to win, and Chicago ate it up. Winner and new Intercontiental champion, Curtis Axel. 3/5 stars

#2 Divas championship match: Kaitlyn(c) vs. AJ Lee
Wow. An entertaining divas match, I sure am liking this rivalry with AJ and Kaitlyn. Her spears are beautiful. Good match up here. Love AJ's submission move. Winner by submission and new Divas champion, AJ Lee. 2.5/5 stars

#3 United States championship match: Dean Ambrose(c) vs. Kane
A decent match up here. Really not much to say here, favorite spot was when Ambrose went...

The Inaugural Payback.... Success!!
First things first, don't pre-order this or wait till October. It's already out at Best Buy as this blu-ray is a Best Buy Exclusive. Get it now.

Payback replaced the pay-per-view "No Way Out" this year. I think we can all agree that last year's No Way Out return was awful.

Now, Payback took place in Chicago, Illinois, one of the best WWE cities and they did not disappoint again.

1. Intercontinental Championship:
Wade Barrett (c) vs. Curtis Axel (W/ Paul Heyman) vs. The Miz
Curtis Axel replaced Fandango for the match as Fandango suffered a concussion weeks before the event. This was a good opener as all three men got to showcase their talent and had their moments. The Miz took a beating from both men and came back strong against Axel & Barrett. The match, going to 10 1/2 minutes was a good start to the event. The crowd was hot and actually going for Curtis Axel. The ending was pretty unique in a way, as I've never seen something like...

Weird Science (Blu-ray + Digital Copy + UltraViolet)

Stay Away...Stay Far Away
This DVD tries to suck the buyer in by telling him/her that this DVD contains music from the original score...which it might have, but along with that there comes the added bonus of missing lines that made the movie a classic...for instance the "If there's one thing I know its female stats..." line is completely gone. There are others but I don't have enough room to put them here. Not since the latest Animal House with the missing "Have you seen my rolling papers?" line has a DVD release been so disappointing. While these things may not matter to the majority of you viewers, it will to some of you so you have been warned.

Let's put the granparents in the broom closet
Another John Hughe's classic. It falls into the same DVD treatment as 'Sixteen Candles' though. It was released poorly on DVD, and is no longer in production. But hold on, there's rumours that this and 'Breakfast Club' and '16 Candles' will get the DVD treatment they deserve in time for their 20th Anniversary! Weird Science, although silly at times, is a must-have 80's classic with some VERY entertaining scenes. Wait for the next DVD release, please don't pay high amounts for the used early DVD copy!

Another John Hughes Must Have!
Finally, the big boys in hollywood have been decent enough to grace us with a re-release of one of the great teen flick's of the 80's. Starring a young and accomplised Anthony michael Hall (The Breakfast Club) and a host of other 80's stars, the story follows two 15 year old teens who decide to make a virtual woman on their computer. However, things become more then just virtual as the woman they created becomes more then just a dream, and infact, real!

If your a fan of director John Hughes, then this is a DVD you simply have to own. It'll go nicely with other classics like "The Breakfast Club", "Sixteen Candles", "Pretty In Pink" and many more.

Oh, one more thing...I'm glad its being re-relesed for 2 reasons. 1) my VHS copy is almost worn out. 2) I wont have to pay for a over priced second hand copy.

March

The March (on Washington) PBS Documentary
I was 16 years old when the peaceful March on Washington occurred. This documentary was inspirational and it flowed smoothly. It reminded me of what a unique and rare event it was. For such an important point in history when so much had occurred before and after August 28, 1963, the film does justice to the subject of civil rights in a relatively small amount of time. The film highlights many people who were behind this event, in addition to Dr. Martin Luther King, including the 250,000 people of various races who came from all over the country to be seen, and to hear the speeches and music. For those who were too young to understand what was happening fifty years ago to people my age and older, this film is educational, thorough and effective in showing progress that has been made with civil rights in the U.S. It also makes clear how far we still have to go for racial equality, integration and equal rights for all minorities. This is an important documentary of a remarkable event...

Adventures of Mickey Matson & Copperhead Treasure

Family Friendly Movie
Don't expect too much from this movie. It's a low budget film but it is well done. And with very good acting unlike some if not most B-movies.Story revolves around the adventures of Mickey and his new found friend Sully. They must follow a series of clues left by Mickey's grandfather.Along the way, they encountered alliances as well as enemies who will do everything in their power to stop Mickey. If they succeed it will be the end of the world as we know it.But will they?Watch the movie and find out.It also has references to the Civil War which makes it interesting. You will see familiar faces like Christopher Lloyd(Back to the Future),Ernie Hudson(Ghostbuster) and Lee Arenberg(Once Upon A Time).Rent the movie on Redbox($1.27) instead of Blockbuster if it's still in your area.Ours closed. Also it's cheaper than Amazon Instant Video or if you rent it from Xfinity On Demand.

Pint Size National Treasure
Pleasant enough and well done enough adventure movie for kids with a typical treasure, follow the clues format.

Mickey and friends chase after the clues left behind by deceased grandfather(Christopher Lloyd). The setting: Michigan countryside. The clues lead to three "elements" that could unlock a mythical device. Of course, a group of bank robbing badguys are after them. Everything ties to the Civil War and secret societies and treasure.

The movie's nowhere near as involved or exciting as National Treasure, but it redeems itself by very good children actors, some veteran co-stars, fair editing and a story geared towards the elementary aged and above.

It's mostly lots of build-up and lots of dramatic music and a bit of action- most near the end. The Civil War intentions are less than accurate, the badguys look creepy but soften it up by being moronic and falling for every juvenile trick in the book. Christopher Lloyd is barely a cameo; however,...

Enjoyed by the kids
My boys, ages 4 and 7, loved this movie, but my husband and I were left wishing we'd just pulled out "Goonies" instead. It was a fun, clean adventure story but just didn't have the polish I would have liked. It felt a lot like a made for TV movie.

A Hijacking [Blu-ray]

Chilling but riveting hostage/negotiation drama from Denmark
I caught this movie just this weekend here in Cincinnati as a presentation of the non-profit Cincinnati World Cinema. So glad I did.

"A Hijacking" (2012 release from Denmark; 103 min.) brings the story of the crew on a container ship which is on the Indian Ocean on its way to Mumbai, but gets hijacked by a group of Somali pirates. As the movie opens, we get to know Mikkel, the Danish cook on the ship, making a phone call to his wife and young daughter. We also get to know Peter, the CEO of the shipping company back in Denmark. We learn of the hijacking when Peter gets a note slipped in front of him during a meeting. Peter hires a consultant who has experience dealing with this particular situation. Meanwhile, back on the ship, the crew is not treated well by the pirates, and I'm being mild, as the days and weeks go by, while the translator for the pirates and the CEO are trading phone calls over the release money. The pirates are asking a ransom of $12 million and the CEO...

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (Deluxe Edition) [Blu-ray]

DK Return as Full Feature & 70 min Miller Doc? No Double Dip!
For fans thinking they are being 'double dipped' by this DC Universe Animated Original Movie 'Deluxe Edition' release of 'BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS,' think again. You only need look at what you are getting for your money to realize Warner Bros. animation is offering up a totally new 'viewing experience' for this groundbreaking animated achievement, along with phenomenal new extras well worth the investment. The full-length, uninterrupted version of the film clocks in at 2 hours and 29 minutes. That makes this uninterrupted viewing experience the closest fans will get to a Christopher Nolan 'Batman' film, perhaps, for the last time ever.

The fact that the entire version features a crew commentary track exclusive to this 'full-cut' means that fans get a creative perspective on the film as a whole. Had commentary tracks been recorded and released on each of the separate 'Part 1' and 'Part 2' releases, they would have inhibited the creators from discussing their...

Epic Achievement
Kudos to WB for releasing this film in a single package.

The story is legendary. The cast is incredible. The animation is excellent. This may be the best Batman film ever made, trumping even the works of Nolan. A large part is due to its loyalty to the source, Frank Miller's epic dystopian tale.

There are many layers inside the story. Social commentary. Political commentary. But at its core we find out what drives Batman and why he is so important. Not only that, but we get to see the two great superheroes go at it when Superman and Batman go toe-to-toe.

WB is packing a lot into this new release. The only shame I can see is that they're not giving the full film a theatrical release. It deserves one. The quality is there and as a singular film, it moves at a fast pace. I would love to see this one on the big screen in the Fall.

A must have for any TRUE Batman fan.
Most likely if your here its because your a "semi" big Batman fan or bigger. While I can see many coming her and claiming that this is simply a cash grab on DCs part I will gladly toss 20 dollars their way for this amazing set! I already own parts one and two and while many see this as a petty attempt for DC to make another last minute buck, the fact remains that the original parts separately did not do that well financially. Heartbroken because this has actually been my second favorite DCU release I came back to the well in order to support this full flick. I don't want the lack of money this movie got affect future possible DC releases. Im sure we all want to see a "Arkham Asylum" and "Killing Joke" movie someday.

To be honest the movie flowed much better as one film as aposed to two. That was one reason I didn't mind shelling out the 20 bucks. The other huge reason is obviously the 70 minute long Frank Miller documentary. If you don't know who Frank Miller is, shame on...

90210: The Fifth Season

Goodbye 90210, you will be missed
I will miss 90210 so much! It was my favorite teen drama since it began in 2008 and until May of this year. This show was so dramatic, filled with sex and twists that I'll never forget. The cast worked so great together for five years, and I will miss looking forward every week for a new 90210 episode, but it was a great season overall. Obviously, this season doesn't feel like a final season, because the show was cancelled right before the season finale (now series finale) was supposed to be filmed, so if you haven't seen the last episode, don't expect anything big or fancy, but at least the writers found a way to give everybody a closure. The CW did a really bad decision, they will never find anything like 90210 ever.

This season gets closer to the characters' feelings, with Dixon's car accident, Silver trying to have a baby before gettng diagnosed with breast cancer, Naomi breaking up with Max (they were end game! I suffered when they split up), Annie's new writing career...

Best Show!!!
I chose a 5 because we love this show and we like how convenient Amazon makes it to have access to this show. If you watch the series from season one, 90210 gets very addicting.

Retro girl Loving the new 90210
Love it! Never thought I would like it. I grew up watching the original 90210. I love how the original characters are in the show!

Doctor Who, Story 80: Terror of the Zygons

An excellent leading story for the 13th season
After a very subpar Cybermen story, the Doctor, Sarah and Harry come back to Earth to help UNIT investigate destroyed oil rigs. What they find are people who aren't what they appear to be, an alien threat and one version of the Loch Ness Monster. This story is full of nice touches, including the Doctor's indignation at being called back about "mineral slime" until the Brigadier reminds him of the loss of life, a look at the Brigadier's Scottish heritage and Harry not being an imbecile. The Zygons are well written with a fascinating technology and deserved to come back, which sadly never happened onscreen. However, their one appearance is well worth getting.

The Doctor won't let Zygons be Zygons
The opening story of the thirteenth season has the Doctor, Harry, and Sarah responding to the Brigadier's emergency call that he got at the end of the previous story. Three rigs by the North Sea have been destroyed in one month. First there's a radio blackout, then a weird sound that comes in, and then the rig is destroyed. UNIT is stationed in the nearby village of Tullock, Scotland to investigate.

Some curious markings from the wreckage of the Bonnie Prince Charlie, the rig destroyed at the beginning of the story leads the Doctor to do a study in orthodontology, with a cast of "a set of giant molars than can chew through solid steel as easily as paper." Could it be a manifestations of evil spirits that Angus McRanald, landlord of the inn UNIT is occupying, tells about to Sarah? "Bad luck comes to them who set foot on Tullock Moor" he tells her. But do evil spirits destroy oil rigs?

Another character is the Duke of Forgill, a cynical-looking man with a withering look who...

Zygons?...A name humans will learn to fear!
This story has be rated as one of the best ever. Not only are the monsters among the series most convincing (by 1970's Dr Who standards), but the overall atmosphere generated by the direction and production is extremely powerful. Adding to this wonderfully eerie feel, is a superb score by Geoffrey Burgon - the tension created by his music is incredible. For me John Woodnutt steals the show, playing two parts as the lead monster 'Broton', and the 'Duke'. His whispering delivery of the aliens' threat to the world ranks as one of the series most remarkable performances. Some feel that the story is let down by some badly executed animation used for the 'Skarasen' (The Loch Ness Monster). But for me, this only further enhances the appeal of the story: It's not Hollywood special effects that make it work, it's a superb mix of deep characterisation, thoughtful direction and above all, spine-tingling performances from all involved.

Close to the Edge

I get up I get down, I get remastered
I am a huge Yes fan and have been going to their concerts since the 70's and was lucky to see them do this tune a number of times. Close to the edge is one of Yes' best albums, not my favorite, but it has been a mainstay of progressive rock for more than 30 years. Any new fans of the genre should get this new rhino disc and discover progressive rock for what it truly is- thoughtful and intelligent compositions executed by some of the best musicians in rock. However, most of the prospective buyers for this disc are probably seasoned Yes fans who love "close to the edge", know everything about it, and already have this album in one form or another. Most classic rock albums have been out 3 or 4 times... just reissue it and say it's better than ever. As far as the artwork, notes and lyrics go, this is an excellent package- as close as you'll come to the Lp experience in the cd format. That leaves us with the bonus tracks and the sound quality. As mentioned in other reviews, the bonus...

5.1 Steven Wilson remix, not an old remaster
Amazon must have attributed all of the reviews from other remasters to this version. This accounts for the misinformation regarding which remaster this is by some reviews. Here is the real product description as this is a brand new 5.1 mix by Steven Wilson:

A new edition of the progressive rock masterpiece from 1972, the first in a series of Yes albums to get the deluxe remix treatment. Featuring new stereo and 5.1 surround sound mixes by Steven Wilson from the original multitrack reels, and transferred flat at 96K/24 bit. Also included are a flat transfer of the original stereo mix, instrumental mixes, and other bonus material.

Presented in a mini vinyl replica gatefold card sleeve with booklet featuring new sleeve notes by Sid Smith, along with rare photos and archive material, the album has been mixed for 5.1 Surround Sound from the original studio masters by Steven Wilson and is fully approved by Yes.

The CD features a new stereo album mix, plus...

Close to the edge
I don't think that enough good things can be said about this 1972 album, which many feel was (and is) the definitive Yes album. In fact, Bill Bruford also felt this way and left Yes after Close to the Edge to join the ranks of King Crimson. He was quoted as saying that the band would never top the perfection of Close to the Edge. As a huge Yes fan (they are my favorite prog act), I personally feel that this album is simply superb. Although subsequent albums would also feature greatness, Close to the Edge works incredibly well as a complete work that fuses album cover art, music, and lyrics together in one seamless totality.

The group members at this point include the classic lineup of Chris Squire (bass, vocals); Rick Wakeman (mellotron, moog, Hammond organ, piano); Steve Howe (electric, acoustic guitars); Bill Bruford (drums and percussion); and Jon Anderson (vocals). I should also note that Eddy Offord (as the producer) was also considered to be part of the band and...

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life [Blu-ray]

Lara Croft in Raiderette of the Lost Pandora's Box
It would be easy to dismiss "Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life" as being a cross being "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and a James Bond movie except for two things. The first is that there is nothing inherently wrong with combining those two elements, even if the genesis of your character is a series of video games. The second is that despite the overwhelming plot similarities between this second Lara Croft film and the first and third Indiana Jones movies, there are actually things going to with the titular character. We are not talking profound psychological development here, but for an action film there is actually something else going on as well.

The main thing, of course, is the action, which is why the James Bond comparisons are so obvious. An earthquake shakes the Greek island of Santorini and the next thing we know Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) is on the trail of Pandora's Box. Apparently it was what brought life to Earth and inside it there is one...

A fun & fitting encore
If you liked the first film in the Tomb Raider series, "Cradle of Life" will deliver just as much fun. The sequel begins with artistocratic archeological adventuress Lady Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) diving off the coast of Greece, where a volcanic eruption has uncovered the fabled Lunar Temple. Within the underwater temple, Lara discovers a mysterious orb. As with many of her tomb raids, however, things soon go awry, and the orb falls into enemy hands.

Representatives of the British intelligence agency MI-5 recruit Lara to retrieve the orb, which Alexander the Great created as a map to Pandora's Box. MI-5 fears that a scientist known for creating biological agents will use a plague contained in Pandora's Box to create weapons of terror. Lara scoffs at MI-5's offer to send agents to assist her, and insists on an assistant of her own choosing--a possibly untrustworthy mercenary (Gerard Butler) who is her former lover. And thus the quest for the orb begins anew.

Once again, Jolie...

LCTR The Cradle of Life - An enormously entertaining film!
While most seem to be either a real big fan of the Lara Croft Tomb Raider movies or someone who despises them, I'll take up the role of a big fan. Just as in the first movie, Angelina Jolie's rendition of Lara Croft is absolutely wonderful. This second film, in what is undoubtedly going to be many, is another great action flick that is enjoyable entertainment from the beginning to the end.

While I only have a vague, passing familiarity with the video games, I can say, without a doubt, that this and the first movie make an enormously enjoyable leap from the pc screen to the silver screen.

Angelina Jolie's performance as Lara Croft, to include her impeccable British accent, is nothing less than stunning. I find it absolutely wonderful to see such a beautiful and agile actress take on the "James Bond" type role and handle it with such seeming ease. While these films won't win her any Oscars, they will indelibly mark her among the tops in action film stars. Gerard...

Leviathan

An amphibious ethnographer's eye takes a fascinating look at the harvest from the sea
Leviathan pairs the direct cinema ethnographics of Verena Paravel (Foreign Parts) with the more pared-down aesthetics of Lucien Castaing-Taylor (Sweetgrass) to create a truly unique approach to documentary, delivering an astonishing perspective on deep sea fishing in the North Atlantic. What strikes you at once is what you might call the naiveté of the camera's eye. It's not random, it's intelligent, and seems to pay attention and figure things out, but it's as if the operator doesn't start out knowing what's important, it's as if the camera is a subjectivity thrown into the situation of the fishing ship -- to begin with in the nearly total darkness of the early hours -- and starts out just looking, intrigued by what it sees and wanting to capture it all, but only one piece at a time.

You'd think it would be boring. I was...

Line of Duty: Series 1

A Taut And Twisty British Crime Drama: Five Parts With More Suspense And Surprises Than Most Longer Season Shows
Every once in a while, you discover a series that really surprises you. For me, the five part British police drama "Line of Duty" was one of those experiences. Having seen so many films and TV shows based on a similar premise (cops coloring outside of the lines and those that would pursue them), I didn't have particularly high expectations that this could provide much new to the topic. I just hoped it would be slick and entertaining. From the get-go, though, this high octane procedural came out of the gate swinging and its intensity never relented. Providing as many, if not more, plot twists and big confrontations than a regular season on traditional network TV, these five parts took me on a complete and satisfying journey. Sure, some of the plot points stretched credibility at times. The lead investigators on both sides are each allowed to behave incredibly unprofessionally without repercussions and the criminal plot threads get particularly convoluted. But I didn't care due...

very entertaining
I'm a big fan of crime shows and I really enjoyed this series. I will not be buying it, however, as it is available for free on Hulu.

UNSETTLING CRIME SUSPENSE of gripping gritty dark cops
I couldn't stop watching, but must admit; I turned by head from several nasty scenes. The action is gritty, and writing layered and well done, and the actors believable. That's why it was a BBC hit with a dark side to final justice.

The story plays out more like a 5 hour suspense feature rather than an episodal series. Well developed plot, sub-plots, and characters that remain edge-of-the-seat scary for hours. It's hard to tread water in quicksand when it's sucking the life out of you. It's not the typical bad cop-good cop drama.
Fingers bolt-cuttered, neck slashing, drugs, language and other bad boy stuff makes this intense crime suspense and not for the kiddies.

Martin Compston (Monarch of the Glen) leads as DS Arnott, new AC-12 (anti-corruption unit) after a bungled raid. His boss is Hastings (Adrian Dunbar) and Arnott gets lost of double agent style help for his first case, DCI Gates (Lennie James) from DC Fleming (Vicky McClure). Gina McKee plays a...

GOLDBERG, GOLDBERG, GOLDBERG!!
Goldberg made me start watching wrestling in 98. I had watched when I was a kid and eventually stopped because it was just not realistic. Until a friend at work back in 98 said you have to tune in and see Goldberg! I did and was hooked, his intensity, entrance, strength and his fighting techniques he exhibited during matches made you stop to ask yourself "did he just run that guy over with that spear for real?"
I also got to meet him in Miami for a book signing of his book titled Who's Next?, it was great to meet him! It is about time a DVD of Goldberg is available. I always wanted to have one for my collection! Maybe we will see him in action in WWE again, he can still do everything at 47 years old! Atleast we have him in WWE2k14 & on Blue Ray, another run would be awesome! If anyone should end Takers' streak it should be Goldberg! Perhaps a match against Austin and a Brock rematch!

This is what made Inspector Gadget cartoon famous. Hilarious characters and good story plots. I was around 11 or 12 when Inspector Gadget first came out, loved it then and love it now.

ROCKY MOUNTAINS 3D - The Impressive Natural Paradise (Blu-ray 3D & 2D Version) REGION FREE

Note release date issues on companion Yellowstone 3D
August 17, 2013. Just received another notice from Amazon that there is further delay. Don't know if this is their standard update or if the September release is extended further. Still shows on product page as September. As for me I have finally had enough with these delays and today I cancelled my preorder for this one as well as the one on Yellowstone and Grand Canyon from same studio for which also received note from Amazon that they too were delayed. After publishing this review on the Yellowstone, Grand Canyon and Rockies DVD sites...

Kindred: The Embraced - Complete Series (Includes Book of Nod)

Not Just A Reissue, A New Deluxe Set: With Only Eight Episodes, This Supernatural Saga Was Never Allowed To Truly Develop Teeth
The horror genre has had a spotty track record on television. Aside from anthology series that introduced a new tale of woe every week, most entries that dabbled in supernatural or monster themes were often more beloved than popular. I know it seems hard to imagine now with the revitalized interest in everything supernatural. Vampires, wolves, ghosts, zombies and other beasties rule the airwaves (although still mostly beyond network TV) on premium cable, CW, AMC, FX, and BBCAmerica among others. I think that's why we still remember the programs that defied conventional wisdom, that attempted something different in trying to tie an on-going mythology to the serialized drama. Sure daytime had "Dark Shadows," but for every "X-Files" or "Buffy" that turned into monster cult hits, there were many more that simply vanished without a trace. Even the show that absolutely set the standard in my opinion, "Kolchak" couldn't stay on the air for more than one season in 1974-75 despite a series of...

The Uninvited (Criterion Collection)

A Good Old Fashioned Ghost Story Effectively Told
Neatly playing light-hearted daytime fun against unsettling nighttime hauntings, THE UNINVITED is very much a traditional ghost story. When Ray Milland and sister Ruth Hussey buy a house on the Cornwall coast the purchase seems ideal--particularly as Milland is attracted to the seller's granddaughter, beautiful Gail Russell. But once settled in, Milland and Hussey soon find they are not quite alone in their new home.

The film is particularly notable for an "every day ordinary" style: there are no manipulative camera angles or unexpected editing tricks; there is no foreshadowing soundtrack; there are precious few special effects--and by refusing to use such time-honored elements, the story's ghostly elements seem all the more disturbing by comparison. The strong cast, which also includes Donald Crisp, Alan Napier, Cornelia Otis Skinner, is first rate and plays expertly, and Lewis Allen directs with restraint but never allows the pace to drag. THE UNINVITED is not a...

YOU CAN ALMOST SMELL THE MIMOSA!
Based upon Dorothy Macardle's 1942 novel "Uneasy Freehold" THE UNINVITED is a wonderful and unique film which keeps the viewer mesmorized throughout. On the last day of their vacation in May, 1937, Rick and Pam Fitzgerald (brother and sister!) find an empty house on the seaside which they purchase for a ridiculously low price. Naturally, the place has "disturbances" in the form of two spectres, one of which just happens to be the daughter of the previous owner, Commander Beech (Donald Crisp). The other ghost is the spirit of Carmel Casada an artist's model. The commander's grand-daughter, Stella Merideth makes friends with the Fitzgeralds and she is ecstatic about visiting them in the childhood home she loves dearly. Gail Russell is luminous as the moonstruck Stella; this was her second film and her lack of acting experience is actually an advantage-her eerie lustre and shy, naive demeanor suit her role perfectly. There is a great sequence involving a...

Its about time!
Finally, one of the best, and most awaited ghost/haunted house stories is given the million dollar treatment by Criterion. This 1944 film had me sneaking upstairs (against explicit instructions by my parents to "go directly to bed") to watch the late show with a blanket nearby for the scary parts. Honestly its not really scary, no mater what my 12 year old self still thinks, but it's one of the creepiest and well produced supernatural movies from Hollywood.

Ray Milland (Rick) is the perfectly suave leading man who falls in love with the beautiful Gail Russell, (Stella) a young 20 year old daughter of the mystery spirit who maybe haunting "Windward House", that sits perched upon a tall cliff on the haunted Cornish coast in England. [Oh, yeah, very Gothic!] Milland and his sister (Ruth Hussey) buy the house while on vacation at a heavily discounted price from the stern Commander Beech (Donald Crisp). His granddaughter, Stella, becomes upset with the sale until she is...

Just Like a Woman

Two friends, one journey, no limits
Some critics are calling this engaging film a modern day `Thelma and Louise, but with a happy ending'. Yes, is it is a story about tow disconsolate women who decide to take their lives in their own hands and set out on a road trip to prove they can indeed survive. As written by Joelle Touma and Marion Doussot and directed by Rachid Bouchareb (highly regarded for his touching films `Days of Glory' and `London River') JUST LIKE A WOMAN takes on a pair of women who have issues with men and allows us to see the building of a friendship of meaning and one that overcomes sour consequences with gentle grace.

Mona (Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani), 26, is an immigrant from Egypt who was brought to America by her now mother in law (Chafia Boudraa) to run her in-laws' mini market in Chicago and to marry her arranged husband is Mourad (Roschdy Zem), a kind and gentle man who can't stand up to his authoritarian mother. Mona is harassed by her mother-in-law because after five years...

True friendship movie
This movie showcased what it means to be a true friend. It shows the struggles of two women and how leaning on each other helped them out. It was a refreshingly good movie.

Terrible representation of dancers
The basic premise of the movie was decent-and the actresses were likeable. The dancing was so poorly misrepresented though-and was such a key part of the film-it was impossible to ignore. Why would they not try to find someone with previous dance experience? Or use doubles body like many other dance movies do?

As Cool As I Am [Blu-ray]

good, watch me.
This is good! I had no expectations, but love Claire Danes. She doesnt disappoint - the characters are rich and abundant, if extremely flawed, - and acted well.... ahh the movies. Makes you feel good about life essentially - in an unexpected way.

Good premise
As far as coming of age and parents gone wild films go, this one is not bad. The actors and actresses all deliver solid to excellent performances. It's just the execution of all these moving parts where something mis-fires. I love slow movies like Out of Africa and Age of Innocence, but this one was slow without engaging me. The resolution of the film is touching but felt incomplete.

Pretty depressing but very much worth watching & I highly recommend. If you like What Maisie Knew you will love this. I say B+
"If memory is malleable then the future is too." Lucy is a sixteen year old girl who is too smart for her own good. She spends her free time learning how to cook and hanging out with her friend Kenny. Her mother (Danes) and father (Marsden) had her when they were young and not ready for that responsibility. Now with her dad gone all but 4 times a year and her mom acting like a kid herself Lucy is left to discover life for herself. This is a movie that again proves my point that a movie can be entertaining and worth watching involving great acting rather then special effects. This is a movie along the line of What Maisie Knew only involving an older child rather then a 6 year old. Parents that should not have been allowed to have children and a child who is more mature then the parents. You really root for Lucy the entire time and by the time the end come you feel extremely sorry for her as well as relief. That is a hard combination to achieve but that's what great writing and acting...

Viva! Hysteria (DVD)

I WAS THERE
I TOOK MY FIANCE FOR HER BIRTHDAY TO SEE HER FIRST DEF LEPPARD CONCERT AND MY FIRST SINCE LOS ANGELES FORUM PYROMANIA TOUR SEPT 11, 1983!!!
THIS SHOW WAS AMAZING, WATCHING DEF LEPPARD PERFORM HYSTERIA IN IT'S ENTIRETY WAS A DREAM COME TRUE!!! THE ONLY SONG MISSING FROM THE ENCORES WAS FOOLIN', DISAPPOINTING...
WATCHING DED FLATTBIRD PLAY EARLY CLASSICS WAS GREAT, TOO BAD THEY BROKE UP!!!

Viva Hysteria is EXCELLENT
I attended 5 of these shows at Hard Rock & out of the hundreds of concerts I have seen, these were by far the best. Joe's voice was well rested and perfect! The setlist was different each night, which included songs from Def Leppards early career. For me, the Ded Flatbird set was the absolute best! I'm so excited to relive this wonderful concert experience! If you missed Viva Hysteria in person, you will absolutely love this!

Must See
I was present for two of the live shows that became a part of this film. The show is broken into two sets. The first part contains the entire 12-track Hysteria album played in original track order. The second part is a set of fan favorites and rarely played songs. In person, the quality of the show was beyond compare. If the blu-ray captures half the energy of the actual event it will be more than worth the money. This was an amazing event. Definitely collection worthy!

Word According to the Bagleys

Not what I was expecting, but it will do for now...
Received this product very fast and I am super excited with that...but I just opened the package and the product I received was not what I expected. I guess I was expecting a one piece unit instead of two. I expected it to be rubber since it says 'Rubberized' and both pieces are plastic but it has a rubber finish to protect the design. My boyfriend has received products like this and when they say 'rubberized' they mean it. It has a nice design and the seam isn't to bad, the design is very clear and almost has a 3D feel to it. This will do for now but I will be more careful down the road with the cases I order.

Nikita: The Complete Third Season [Blu-ray]

One of my favorite shows!
I love the action and the actors in this show...may it have many more season's to come. My favorite characters Alexandra Udinov, and of course, Nikita.

Nikita: The Complete Third Season
Breathtaking! A thrilling series to fill cold winter nights. Highly recommended.
Hope they continued this series for a fourth season.

Still Great Series
I have been watching this series for about a year when I discovered it by chance and signed up for all 3 seasons on Amazon and while this season has a different flavor than the previous seasons I am enjoying it totally. The acting is good, the characters are interesting and the missions are not retreads of other series like I see on other shows. 5 Stars for me easy.
